FIVB Beach Volleyball Continental Cup helps drive global growth


Lausanne, Switzerland, January 6, 2020 – The third edition of the FIVB Continental Cup is underway in each of the five continents and continues to support the global growth of beach volleyball.

Introduced by President Ary Graça ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games, the Continental Cup is played in a unique country vs country format with each country represented by two teams per gender. The winner from each Confederation in this year’s Continental Cup will book a ticket to next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo, providing the ultimate motivation for teams to compete at their very best.

Talking about the Continental Cup, the FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça Fᵒ said: “We used to have 31 teams competing to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2018. For Rio 2016 it was 169! This is a huge growth!The Cup has elevated beach volleyball to a new level by involving more and more National Federations as they pursue their Olympic dream.”
