Newcastle join Arsenal in transfer race for Brazil star Everton Soares amid rumours of £38.5m bid

NEWCASTLE have reportedly joined the list of clubs scouting Everton Soares but are yet to table a bid for the Arsenal target.

The diminutive winger shot to fame in the summer with a starring role in Brazil’s run to Copa America glory.

That alerted several teams to what could prove to be a bargain move, Gremio said to be wanting £36million for Everton at the time.

Ahead of the January window opening, reports in France suggested a fresh loan offer was to arrive from Newcastle, including a £38.5m permanent deal option.

According to Chronicle Live, the Magpies are not yet ready to make a bid for Everton.

However they are scouting the 23-year-old with transfer chief Steve Nickson heading to South America to get a good look at the potential arrival.

Everton was strongly linked with Arsenal in the summer but the Emirates outfit opted for Nicolas Pepe instead.

Despite the Brazilian starting to learn English, a move never materialised with his age seen as making him almost too old to make the jump to Europe.

The 2019 season saw Everton hit 15 goals along with seven assists in all competitions for Gremio.

A move to China was reportedly rejected and his reward was a near-miss in the Copa Libertadores, reaching the semi-finals before a jarring defeat to eventual champions Flamengo.

This January, Arsenal are thought to be prioritising a move for a centre-back with Red Bull Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano of interest and William Saliba considered for a recall from his loan at Saint-Etienne.

Steve Bruce’s Newcastle, meanwhile, reportedly seek three new players with Hull’s Jarrod Bowen and Burnley star Dwight McNeil on their wish list.
