Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp resigned to losing Adam Lallana next summer but aiming to stop free transfer away

JURGEN KLOPP is resigned to losing Adam Lallana in the summer – but is desperate to stop him leaving without a fee.

Lallana’s current contract expires at the end of the season and he is likely to quit Anfield in pursuit of regular first team football.

The 31-year-old is able to negotiate with other clubs from the start of January and agree a pre-contract for the summer.

But the Telegraph report that Liverpool manager Klopp wants to get the playmaker to agree at least a one-year deal so the club do not miss out on receiving a fee if he does leave.

Klopp is a huge supporter of Lallana and recognises the impact he can still make at Anfield.

But after two years plagued by injuries the England star is now outside the starting eleven with the Premier League leaders and relying on sub appearances.

He was handed a rare start against Wolves as Klopp shuffled his side due to the heavy fixture congestion, and delivered an impressive display which showed he still has the game to shine in the top flight.

But the player now has to decide whether he will be happy to settle for being a bit-part player or if he wants to be a regular performer.

Lallana still has the hunger and belief that he can thrive at the highest level for at least two or three more years, but to do that he may well have to leave Merseyside.

Klopp is aware of the situation and is thought to be understanding of the player’s feelings if he does want to find another club.

In an ideal world he would like the midfielder to commit the remainder of his career to Liverpool but accepts that is unlikely to happen.

There would be no shortage of interested clubs in snapping up the former Southampton man on a free transfer – both at home and in Europe.

No departure is expected in January, with both player and manager keen to finish out the season as Liverpool push to win their first ever Premier League title.
