FIFA have banned a Bahrain international for ten games after he aimed shocking racist abuse at Hong Kong fans.
Sayed Baqer, 25, made a slanted-eye gesture towards supporters as he left the field after a World Cup qualifier on November 14.
Sayed Baqer has been banned for 10-matches – the minimum sanction for such an incident
His appalling actions were captured on video and the defender was also hit with a £23,000 fine.
In July the minimum ban for such offences was doubled from five matches.
After a separate qualifying incident, Fifa ordered Indonesia to play a game behind closed doors following a fiery clash with rivals Malaysia.
Both teams were fined by footie chiefs in the wake of crowd disturbances.
The issue of racism reared its ugly ahead once again yesterday as Antonio Rudiger was abused during Chelsea’s win over Tottenham.
The Blues defender pointed to the stands insisting he was made the subject of vile monkey gestures.
Skipper Cesar Azpilicueta informed the referee and several announcements were made warning fans that racism was jeopardising the game.
The FA and Tottenham have launched an investigation into the vile incident, and Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen has called on authorities to act strongly.
The 32-year-old Belgian centre-half said: “I didn’t hear anything but these things are still happening and it’s a disgrace and we should act strong against this.
“I have got no idea how people still, or ever, talk this way. Sometimes you think people are smarter than this. I’m very convinced it’s just a minority but it’s very wrong.
“I don’t know if it’s getting worse but it shouldn’t be there anyway. I just can’t get my head around how people do this and I have no words for it.
“If any of our players or their players are affected by it then I apologise in the name of Spurs, but like I said it’s a minority of idiots. We don’t identify with these people.”
