TYSON FURY’S February 22 showdown with Deontay Wilder will be announced next week – with a third installment in the mix for the summer.
Last year’s controversial draw was a sensation as the 6ft 9in Brit outboxed the WBC king for most of the fight before suffering two late knockdowns.
Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder produced a stunning fight last time around
Fury’s incredible recovery from the second decking went viral as the world likened him to WWE’s Undertaker character and fans have been desperate to see a rematch ever since.
And the wait is almost over as the Gypsy King has packed his bags to head to Vegas to announce would could be leg two of an era-defining trilogy.
Promoter Frank Warren told SunSport: “The fight for the 22nd will be officially confirmed next week.
“Tyson has got himself into a great position in America with the two fights he had over there.
“People thought they were easy fights but the motive was to build his profile and, with the WWE, he is probably better known in America than Deontay Wilder.
“That fight next year will be a monster and Tyson will confirm himself as the No1 in the world and then they will have a rubber match in the summer.
“Tyson flies out to Vegas briefly on Thursday and then comes back and goes out there for his fight camp from January 2.”
Fury started his camp last week but then split with trainer, friend and psychologist Ben Davison.
SunSport understands the 31-year-old fighter wanted to add another trainer to his corner for the mammoth 2020 and Davison felt he could not work in the proposed new regime.
But Warren has seen enough of the undefeated star, who needed 47 stitches in two gashes around his eye from the September win over Otto Wallin, to believe his plan is bang on track.
Ahead of Daniel Dubois’ Saturday night clash with Kyotaro Fujimoto, Warren said: “Ben did a tremendous job as a trainer and a good friend and has been instrumental in getting Tyson back to the top.
“They have parted amicably, I think Tyson wanted to bring someone in who was a little bit more experienced.
“At the end of the day, he is the one getting in the ring and is the one who has to feel comfortable.
“But hopefully they work together again in the future.
“Tyson already has a great boxing brain and, at 31, you are not going to teach him anything new.
“He is in a good place. His weight is in a good place so he is only training for a fight and not to melt weight off like he had to before.
“And mentally he is in a very good place.”
