Tyson Fury sensationally splits with trainer Ben Davison just two months before Wilder fight

TYSON FURY has parted company with influential trainer Ben Davison months before his blockbuster rematch with Deontay Wilder.

Davison played a key role in Fury’s return to the ring after his recent ban and the Gypsy King will now need to find a new trainer in the build up to the February showdown.

No indication has been given as to who Fury will bring in to train him ahead of the eagerly anticipated clash, which takes place in Las Vegas.

The pair could not be separated when Fury and Wilder first met in LA as they battled to a bruising draw in December 2018.

Davison has played a pivotal role in Fury’s career and helped the 31-year-old overcome issues with his mental health, drink and drugs prior to his return to the ring.

While under his watch Fury lost EIGHT STONE as he looked to make his way back to the top of the heavyweight division.

The dramatic change, Davison claimed, was as much to do with keeping Fury mentally active as it was physically in an attempt to prevent distractions entering his life.

While the clash with Wilder ended in a draw, many felt Fury edged the encounter and he will hope to go one better when they face off again.

Davison may not be there on the night, but remains firmly in Fury’s corner and called on his former fighter to “smash the dosser” when he comes up against Fury.

The trainer suggested in a tweet that the pair both made the decision in the interests of their own careers.

Prior to taking on the role of Fury’s trainer, Davison, who boxed as an amateur, worked with long-time friend Billy Joe Saunders.

Fury has since built on that draw with Wilder wins over Tom Schwarz and Otto Wallin and heads into the bout with Wilder boasting a record of 29-0-1.

The duo are being touted as potential opponents for Watford fighter Anthony Joshua, but Fury has since distanced himself from a possible all-British showdown in 2020.

He says he has too many commitments in the US to be able to fulfil the fight should he emerge victorious against Wilder.
