Jack Rodwell trains with Sheff Utd ahead of potential free transfer as he looks to revive career

JACK RODWELL is training with Sheffield United ahead of a potential free transfer as he looks to resurrect his floundering career.

The former Manchester City and Everton midfielder, 28, has been on the radar of Roma and Parma in recent weeks.

But now he is in training with the high-flying Blades as he looks to revive his career.

Rodwell has been without a club since being released by Blackburn at the end of last season.

But Sheff Utd boss Chris Wilder is itching to add some strength and depth to his squad as they look to continue their charge up the Premier League table.

Rodwell’s career has been obliterated by injuries after bursting onto the scene with Everton a decade ago.

However, the midfielder has shown glimpses of genuine talent – even earning three England caps in the process.

While predominantly a midfield player, Wilder is keen on having his defenders being comfortable on the ball.

That could see Rodwell, with his height and strength, shift into a deeper role.

However, it might not pan out for the former Sunderland man – who failed in trials at Parma and Roma earlier this season.

Roma boss Paulo Fonseca decided against signing Rodwell, but was impressed enough to recommend him to other clubs.

Panathinaikos are another club thought to be keen on Rodwell, along with Torino and Sassuolo.
