Frank Lampard wary of going on January transfer spending spree to not upset promising youngsters coming through

FRANK LAMPARD is wary of being “too reactionary” in the transfer window, now that Chelsea are able to buy players again.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision to reduce the Blues’ transfer ban from two windows to one, meaning that the club can buy again in January, has coincided with the team’s performances taking a dip.

But with the club’s youngsters having gained so many plaudits for their classy, fearless performances so far this season, Lampard doesn’t want to abandon them after a few dodgy games.

Ahead of tonight’s crunch match with Lille, the Chelsea boss said: “You have to be careful not to be too reactionary.

“Ban lifted, lose at Everton, it might be easy to come to that conclusion. As much as at the start of the season that we have got these young boys, we don’t need anyone.

“As a club like Chelsea there has to be a balance.

“We have a strong squad, but we have to look at can we strengthen?

“There will be times going forward, whether it’s January or next summer, there will be times and opportunities to strengthen.

“You do learn as you go along with the players, every day in training and at games but it certainly hasn’t changed my mindset right now.”

The Blues have been linked with the likes of Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho – who both fit into the club’s model of championing the best young English talent.

Now that Chelsea can sign replacements, a host of first-team players could be allowed to leave the club.

The likes of Pedro, Marcos Alonso and Olivier Giroud have all fallen out of favour this season.

And they could all depart to make room for fresh talent at Stamford Bridge.
