Dortmund chief Zorc defends Jadon Sancho axe and insists Man Utd transfer target still needs to mature

BORUSSIA DORTMUND chief Michael Zorc has defended the club’s decision to axe Jadon Sancho – insisting he still needs to mature.

The England star, 19, has TWICE been dropped at Dortmund this season with the club citing disciplinary issues.

Now Dortmund sporting director Zorc has revealed he has no regrets dropping Sancho, saying it was for the best of the club.

Zorc revealed: “Jadon is still in the process of growing up and perfecting professional behaviour.

“So he needs guidelines and help, and we’ll give him that.

“You have no choice – you have to maintain team discipline. It’s not just about the players, it’s about the club.”

As well as being booted into the reserves for a spell in the 2017-18 season for repeatedly turning up late for training, Sancho was dropped in October of this year.

The former Manchester City winger was cut from the squad to face Borussia Monchengladbach – with boss Lucien Favre tight-lipped as to the reason at the time.

Favre had claimed: “I do not want to talk about it, it remains internal.”

But he later revealed: “The expectations of Jadon are enormous, but that is dangerous.

“Jadon is a great player, no discussions, but he still has a lot to learn.”

Sancho scored twice in Dortmund’s last game – a 5-0 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf – a far cry from when he was hauled off at half-time against Bayern Munich with his side already 4-0 down.
Despite his at times controversial stay in Germany, Chelsea and Manchester United are desperate to sign the England star.

Liverpool are thought to also be in the running as they look to maintain their spot atop the Premier League.
