Daniel Sturridge pleads with fans after having three lighters launched at him during Trabzonspor derby vs Antalyaspor

DANIEL STURRIDGE pleaded with fans to stop launching objects onto the pitch after he was targeted with three lighters while starring for Trabzonspor.

The England striker, 30, posted a photo of himself removing the lighters during the Super Lig derby win at Antalyaspor.

Alexander Sorloth, Anthony Nwakaeme and Yusuf Sari provided all the goals in the first half.

But celebrations were soured for Sturridge and he let fans know about it on social media.

Former Liverpool forward Sturridge wrote: “Away game = 3 points, 2 assists oh and 3 lighters, yes that is 3 lighters in my hand.

“All jokes aside. Fans, please don’t throw things on the pitch. The players’ safety shouldn’t be in danger from the fans and vice versa.

“Rivalries in football are a big thing but it shouldn’t get to the level where you want to harm an opposition player.

“Setting a good example for the kids sitting next to you in the stadium will hopefully allow this to not happen regularly in the future, they will think it’s OK to act like that when it’s not.

“You know I love the banter with fans but sometimes it’s a little too far.

“Much love anyway have a good start to the week.”

Sturridge can at least count himself lucky he was not playing in Brazil over the weekend.

There, Cruzeiro players were bombarded with seats raging fans had ripped from the stadium after their first relegation in 98 years was confirmed.

Children fled for safety as riot cops stepped in with tear gas to calm the horrendous scenes.
