Hearn says Anthony Joshua vs Ruiz Jr 2 will break UK PPV record beating the likes of Mayweather vs McGregor

ANTHONY JOSHUA’S rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr will break the UK pay-per-view record.

That’s the opinion of promoter Eddie Hearn, who has lauded a superb Saturday of sport topped by his man’s shot at redemption.

The boxing world was left stunned back in June when Joshua had his heavyweight world titles ripped from him by the unfancied Mexican Ruiz.

Now in Saudi Arabia, the 30-year-old Watford boxer has the chance to avenge the only defeat of his professional career.

And with the ringwalks scheduled to start at 8.45pm UK time, Matchroom boss Hearn is expecting a popular main event on PPV.

He said: “It will break the record.

“This is such a great time. Ninety per-cent don’t want to watch the card.

“You will come off [Manchester] United – [Manchester] City straight in, it’s perfect.”

SunSport recently reported that the top UK PPV fight of all time came for Joshua’s stunning 11th-round KO win against the legendary Wladimir Kiltschko back in 2017.

That generated 1.5m buys.

AJ also features second on the top-10 list for his points win against Joseph Parker in 2018. That attracted 1.45m buys.

Floyd Mayweather stopped Conor McGregor in the 10th round of their 2017 boxing fight.

That generated 874,000 UK PPVs – but around 4.3m subscriptions were taken out in the US for it.

SunSport also reported the purses both boxers are expected to bag from the Middle East dust-up.

And Joshua is set to pocket the biggest ever pay day for a British boxer.

The deposed champ is set to pocket £66MILLION for the much anticipated rematch.

The only British or Irish fighter to have ever made a comparable number from a boxing match was Conor McGregor back in 2017 – when he fought Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas.

The Irishman also pocketed around £66million.

Despite being WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion of the world, Ruiz Jr will pocket just £10million from the hotly-anticipated rematch.
