Sir Alex Ferguson spent an hour with Sheffield United boss Wilder after impressive Man Utd draw

SIR ALEX FERGUSON spent a good hour chatting in Chris Wilder’s office after Sheffield United’s 3-3 draw with Manchester United.

Fergie has a lot of time for Wilder and was a mentor figure when the Blades boss was working his way up through the lower leagues.

The legendary Manchester United manager asked to be taken down to see Wilder after the game, relaxing with a glass of wine after watching a proper ding-dong affair between the two sides.

No doubt Wilder, who always name-checks the managers who were good to him on the way up, appreciated the gesture.

Ferguson always had a reputation for sharing a glass of wine with his opposing manager in the moments after any game: win, lose or draw.

It was a touch of class that marked him out as English football management’s best diplomat.

The Blades gave a Fergie signing, Phil Jones, a rude awakening as the central defender severely tested by Lys Mousset.

Ferguson could be seen in the stands having an animated conversation with David Gill and Ed Woodward during the game.

They had a laugh, especially after Manchester United went from 2-0 down to 3-2 up in the space of seven second-half minutes.

But Wilder had the last fist-pumping moment as his newly-promoted side grabbed a last-minute equaliser.

Oliver McBurnie beat David De Gea to send Bramall Lane into a frenzy, only after VAR confirmed he had not committed a hand ball in the build-up.
