Lewis Hamilton says F1 is too damaging to his love life as he travels so much he struggles to even keep his DOGS alive

LEWIS HAMILTON sympathises with love-split teammate Valtteri Bottas as the world champion revealed he even “struggles to keep his pets alive” because of F1’s gruelling schedule.

Bottas blamed career pressures after taking the unusual step of announcing his separation from Olympic swimmer Emilia on social media ahead of this weekend’s Abu Dhabi GP.

The Finn, who only tied the knot in September 2016, wrote: “Unfortunately I have to share with you the news that the marriage between Emilia and myself has come to an end.”

And while Sebastian Vettel skipped his usual media session to welcome the arrival of his third child, Hamilton claimed he even finds pet care difficult to sort out.

He said: “Children aren’t on my agenda at the moment. Congratulations to Seb, he’s obviously a great father.

“But I am struggling to keep my dogs alive and, managing being an uncle at the moment, that’s hard as it is, so I’ve got my hands tied.”

Hamilton, who has not held down a relationship since he split from Nicole Scherzinger in February 2015,  says he can understand why the Bottas’s marriage fell apart.

He added: “It’s similar to most sportsmen and women.

“It may be slightly different in that we are travelling as much as we are, and you are just away for crazy amounts of time.

‘TOUGH TO HOLD DOWN RELATIONSHIP’

“So that’s probably an additional weight that makes it really, really tough to hold down a good relationship, and if things aren’t quite perfect.

“In general for athletes, having the right mindset and trying to find the right balance of how dedicated you are as opposed to resting back and enjoying your quality time, it’s different for everyone.

“But having spoken and read about other athletes in different sports, it’s obviously quite similar for all of us.
“There are those that manage it, look at Seb. There are many athletes who have happy lives in the background.

“But I for one also find that incredibly difficult, with your goal to be as competitive as you can be.

“Ultimately, you want to be 100 percent committed because you never want to be any less committed than the person next to you.

“There’s only a certain amount of you as a whole that you can give to everything. It depends how much of a sacrifice you want to make.”

Meanwhile, Vettel’s paternity leave meant the German avoided questions about his clash with his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc at the Brazilian GP.

Both drivers were hauled in to explain themselves to their bosses at the team’s Maranello.

And Leclerc says they have reached an amicable decision that should prevent a repeat of them crashing in to each other.

He added: “We looked and it to try and understand how we can make things better. It was unfortunate that the touch between us was small and then it was a big drama after that.

“We have to be a bit less aggressive so that doesn’t  happen again. It is not good for the team or for the people supporting us.

“We will be able to race each other. We want to win and have to find a compromise. “We have to be less aggressive towards each other and give each other more space.”

And, as SunSPORT revealed on November 14th, Williams have confirmed that Canadian racer Nicholas Latifi will partner George Russell next season.
