Man Utd can make history at Astana by fielding SIX debutants with Laird, Levitt and Bernard already guaranteed to start

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER could lead Manchester United to making history when they face Astana in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Norwegian could field six debutants for the game- the most by the club in a single game since World War One.

Manchester United could make history by fielding six debutants in the Europa League on Thursday.

The most debutants in one game for United since then is five which has only happened four times, most recently in the Premier League against Tottenham in the 2015-16 season.

But that is likely to get beaten in Astana as United turn to youth for the dead-rubber game.

Solksjaer has confirmed that Di’Shon Bernard (19), Ethan Laird (18) and Dylan Levitt (19) will start the Group L game.

Those three debutants could be joined by more from the bench during the game, to be played in sub-zero temperatures in Kazakhstan.

Seven other members of the 18-man party have yet to play for United.

These include goalkeeper Matej Kovar (19), defenders Teden Mengi (17) and Max Taylor (19), midfielders Ethan Galbraith (18) and Arnau Puigmal (18) and forwards D’Mani Mellor (19) and Largie Ramazani (18).

Lee Grant, who is a 36-year old veteran, will make his first start for the club, having made one substitute appearance last season in the Carabao Cup.

Solskjaer could even select a team with an average age of 22.

And it still remains to be seen if Solskjaer will use all of his substitutes on Thursday in Kazakhstan, but that chance stands that the record could indeed be broken.

The news will be somewhat of difficult time for United fans to get excited about the prospect though, after a disappointing weekend away at Sheffield United saw them draw 3-3.

On the plus side, they are yet to conceded a goal in the Europa League this season, on top of the fact that the opponents have lost their last six games in the competition.
