Aston Villa star Matt Targett throws up on pitch against Newcastle but manages to play on

ASTON VILLA defender Matt Targett threw up on the pitch against Newcastle – but bravely played on.

The game was barely 25 minutes old when the 24-year-old took a turn for the worst close to the sideline.

He vomited in full view of fans inside Villa Park, before taking on some water in the hope of feeling better.

Unsurprisingly the incident provoked some lively debate on social media.

Pete Hind tweeted: “Glad Sky didn’t show Matt Targett being sick if I’m honest.”

And another footie fan posted: “Did Targett just get sick on the pitch? while “Benjamin” was quick to praise his “work ethic” in carrying on.

Dave Cotton humorously wrote: “Targett just puked on the pitch – I remember doing that once!

“I bet he didn’t have 10 pints the night before his match though.”

BACK FROM CONCUSSION

Others linked it to how he coped with Wolves winger Adama Traore on November 10 in Villa’s 2-1- derby defeat.

The former Southampton full-back was given a torrid time by Traore but of greater worry was him receiving a blow to the head that game.

Villa later revealed he was suffering from concussion.

One Villain posted on Twitter: “Concerned about Targett. Knock on the head vs Wolves and now throwing up on the pitch. Hope he’s alright.”

Another posted that he “doesn’t look well at all”.

But a Wolves fan wrote: “Targett getting dusted by a pacey winger and wants to go off? Where have I seen that before?”

Targett ultimately played all 90 minutes as Villa won 2-0 to move four points above Norwich in the last relegation spot.

He later joked on Twitter: “A really sick night at Villa Park… good night under the lights.”
