Napoli rebels fined more than £2m over mutiny as president punishes every member of squad ahead of Liverpool clash

NAPOLI president Aurelio De Laurentiis will reportedly fine every single member of the first team squad – following the internal civil war that has plagued the club this month.

The uproar began when players refused to attend a morale-boosting retreat in the aftermath of the 1-1 home draw with Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League on November 5.

Furious fans have since targeted the club’s stars – with many players fearing for their families’ safeties.

And ESPN claim that the seething De Laurentiis will now begin legal proceedings in order to fine the entire squad 25 percent of their monthly salaries.

This is the maximum fine allowed.

The one player immune is Kevin Malcuit, the full-back who amid the madness, has been recovering from a long-term knee injury.

Even experienced manager Carlo Ancelotti was against the now infamous retreat, but club bosses quickly imposed a club-wide media silence in the aftermath of the chaos.

This has prevented Napoli stars from revealing their side of the story.

Ancelotti is, however, required by Uefa rules to give a press conference ahead of his side’s trip to Anfield in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

But the club have provided no signs of lifting the media ban.

Having been expected to challenge for the Serie A title this season, particularly after Massimiliano Allegri’s departure from Juventus, Napoli have had a disappointing start to the season.

They are currently slumped in seventh – already 15 points behind leaders Juve.

And it could get worse before it gets better for the San Paolo side, with a number of first team stars expected to be jettisoned by an embarrassed De Laurentiis.

Among these are thought to be Manchester United target Kalidou Koulibaly, as well as the likes of Dries Mertens, Allan and Lorenzo Insigne.

Napoli drew 1-1 with fellow underachievers AC Milan at the weekend, with Hirving Lozano’s opener cancelled out by Giacomo Bonaventura.

Ancelotti’s job is still thought to be under pressure, despite the Italian being priced out of a potential move to Tottenham last week.

Napoli did actually beat Liverpool last time they met in September – but Jurgen Klopp’s Reds will be hot favourites this time around.
