ARSENAL have been out-shot and out-scored by their opponents this season – with Unai Emery’s shoddy tactics leaving him hanging by a thread.
The Gunners’ torrid form this season under the Spaniard continued with an horrific 2-2 draw at home to Southampton on Saturday.
Arsenal are being out-shot and out-scored by opponents this season
The North Londoners were only saved further humiliation thanks to a late, late strike from Alexandre Lacazette, to steal an undeserved draw.
While many point to the club’s shaky defence, others have called out the attackers for their lack of ability to find the goal with any regularity.
But in truth, Arsenal are struggling in both attack AND defence, with opponents out-shooting and out-scoring Emery’s hapless stars.
Through 13 Premier League games, the Gunners have taken 162 shots (12.5 per game) compared to opponents’ 218 (16.8 per game).
The club’s worst showing came earlier in the season against basement-boys Watford, when their defence allowed the Hornets to take 31 shots in the 2-2 draw.
In the same game, Arsenal took just seven shots.
It’s the same issue when it comes to hitting the target, with the Gunners managing just 58 – an average of 4.5 per game.
On the flip-side, opponents have hit the target of the Arsenal goal 73 times, at 5.6 per game.
And Emery’s side even boast a negative goal difference through 13 games at -1, having scored 18 but shipped 19.
With Arsenal not having been thumped this season – with their biggest losses two-goal margins against Liverpool and Leicester – it demonstrates a consistent struggle, rather than a one-off blip.
Despite their struggles, the Gunners somehow still sit in a semi-respectable seventh place in the Premier League after 13 matches.
However, they are already 19 points behind league-leaders Liverpool – but just EIGHT points above the relegation zone.
There’s work to be done, and quickly, by under-fire Emery – and unfortunately for him, it’s in all areas of the pitch.
