Man Utd outcast Phil Jones set for first Premier League action of season against Sheffield United

PHIL JONES is set for his first Premier League appearance of the season in today’s clash at Sheffield United.

The Manchester United centre-back, 27, has been sidelined this season with hamstring problems and has not played since the Europa League win against Partizan Belgrade a month ago.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has included Jones in his Bramall Lane plans and he is set to play a part against Chris Wilder’s team.

Jones could even start in the clash as Solskjaer looks for back-to-back Prem wins for the first time this season.

The England international has been limited to Europa and EFL Cup games this season after finishing last campaign with game time under Solskjaer.

His two full games this season came in Europe, against Astana and Partizan, while against Rochdale he was taken off at half-time with a knock.

But he has been on the bench for United’s last two games and his availability eases Solskjaer’s centre-back worries as Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo have spent time on the treatment table.

Speaking ahead of the match against Wilder’s men, Solskjaer said: “It’s a clear gap in the league between top four and I don’t know how many teams within a range of three or four points.  It’s about consistency now.

“We turned a corner, we felt, performance-wise and with results after the last international break but it’s so tight I’m just looking forward to this game.

“We need to have a good performance and result.”
