Chelsea hold a Pep Guardiola team to lowest possession ever in 381 top-flight matches

PEP GUARDIOLA recorded the worst possession total he has ever managed in a league game but still beat Chelsea.

Manchester City had 46.74 per cent of the ball at the Etihad as Frank Lampard’s Blues gave them a real test.

That is the least amount of time in possession Guardiola has seen in his managerial career.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss, 48, has taken charge of 381 top-flight matches.

But despite taking the lead through N’Golo Kante, Chelsea could not hold on to the points.

Kevin De Bruyne brought City level and Riyad Mahrez skinned Emerson to fire home and complete the turnaround.

Raheem Sterling thought he had sealed victory with a late third but his effort was ruled out for offside via VAR.

The England flier joked that he may be “cursed” after the game as he took to Twitter to bemoan the decision.

It was the THIRD time the forward has seen VAR chalk off one of his goals, with the other two coming against Tottenham.

Those interventions saw City drop two points and crash out of the Champions League but today turned out to be less painful.

After the win, Guardiola told the BBC: “Chelsea are an incredible team. We knew it, but we beat them.

“It was a typical high-level game. Our back four played so good today. In the most difficult period of the game, we scored on the counter.

“We created enough chances to score more goals.”
