Jose Mourinho asked Dele Alli ‘are you Dele or his brother?’ as he bids to get Spurs star firing again

JOSE MOURINHO has told Dele Alli he wants the England star to be himself again.

The new Spurs boss spoke to Dele about rediscovering the player he was two years ago.

Mourinho said: “I asked him if he was Dele or Dele’s brother? He told me he was Dele. I said ‘OK, play like Dele’.”

The playmaker, 23, is expected to start alongside Harry Kane in Saturday’s lunchtime London derby at West Ham.

Fans fear hitman Kane could be considering his future after five years as a first-team regular that has seen him win zero silverware.

A goal for the England skipper at the London Stadium would see him move clear of legend Martin Chivers as Spurs’ third-highest scorer of all time on 175 strikes.

And Mourinho insisted he will do everything in his power to ensure Kane remains a Tottenham icon.

The Spurcial One said: “Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in the world.

“Whether it is England or Tottenham, he just needs his team to bring him, or to go with him, to the next level.

“And what is the next level? Titles.”

Quizzed about his realistic ambitions at Spurs, Mourinho insisted he is concentrating on taking small steps first — and then bigger ones.

He added: “I will try to win against West Ham and try to qualify for the Champions League next round. I am only focusing on this.

“But with the squad and the quality of the structure of the club, we can have the same ambitions as they have at clubs that are bigger than us.

“I don’t want my players to fear anything.

“We go for everything against everybody and we can win.”
