Spurs fail in £2m bid for teenage starlet Jade-Jones dubbed ‘fastest ever’ while plotting Poch exit

SPURS have been attempting to sign new players despite preparing for Mauricio Pochettino’s exit.

Tottenham have just seen a £1.75million bid turned down for teenage Peterborough forward Ricky Jade-Jones.

The attacking midfielder, who made his Posh debut last month against Arsenal under-21s in the Leasing.com Trophy aged just 16, is being watched by most of the Premier League.

But even though doubt has surrounded Pochettino’s future for some weeks, the club’s recruiting department has carried on as normal.

Spurs have been warned they could have to pay up to £10m for Jade-Jones who has been described by Posh boss Darren Ferguson as “the quickest player I have ever managed”.

Since turning 17 this month and signing a professional deal, Jade-Jones has scored twice – including the second goal in his team’s 2-0 FA Cup replay win over Stevenage on Tuesday.

Former boss David Pleat is still a consultant at White Hart Lane and has urged Spurs to sign Jade-Jones.

He has also told Tottenham to land Max Aarons from Norwich and they are likely to make another attempt this January.

Pleat also urged Spurs to sign James Maddison from Norwich but chairman Daniel Levy thought he was too expensive and he moved to Leicester for £22m.

Jose Mourinho could also reportedly convince Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld to sign new contracts as one of his first moves as boss.
