Spurs want ex-Real Madrid and Monaco talent spotter Luis Campos as Sporting Director to work with Jose Mourinho

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR are reportedly trying tempt Lille sporting director Luis Campos to the club as new boss Jose Mourinho aims to rescue the club’s season.

Campos and Mourinho are good friends after working together at Real Madrid and the new Spurs boss will hope he can persuade the sporting director to North London.

Before joining Lille, Campos was previously at Monaco where he recruited a host of talent.

That included Benjamin Mendy for £11million, Bernardo Silva for £13.5m and Fabinho for £5m as they went on to beat wealthy PSG to the Ligue 1 title in 2016-17.

He also helped discover Anthony Martial, who went on to join Manchester United.

After leaving Monaco Campos boldly claimed: “I don’t want to appear arrogant, but I assure you I will create other masterpieces like this in my career.”

Nicolas Pepe, Arsenal’s record signing, was another player Campos helped on his way to a big money move.

Europe’s biggest clubs including Manchester United, Arsenal, Barcelona and AC Milan have all looked to persuade Campos to become their sporting director and now Mourinho has joined Tottenham, Campos is in demand again.

Mourinho has already raided Lille by appointing Joao Sacramento as his assistant manager and he’ll be hoping his friend Campos will join him in a bid to push Spurs up from their current league position of 14th.

Spurs were linked with a move for Juventus star Paulo Dybala in the last transfer window and should a deal for Campos go through, they’ll be hoping they can unearth some gems like he has at Monaco and Lille.
