McTominay and Maguire are Man Utd’s hardest workers this season as stats reveal highest running numbers

SCOTT McTOMINAY and Harry Maguire are Manchester United’s hardest-working players this season, according to the stats.

Just five Red Devils stars have shattered the 100km-barrier in terms of distance covered in the Premier League this season.

Through 12 games, McTominay is far and away the top runner, but centre-back Maguire is a surprise entry at No2.

The Scotland central midfielder is set to miss Sunday’s game with Sheffield United through injury.

But so far this season, he is streets ahead of his team-mates in terms of work-rate having covered a staggering 130.9km.

Maguire, an £85million summer signing, has run 112.2km from the heart of defence.

Incredibly, that tally is above the tireless Daniel James – who has run 107.8km this season in the top-flight.

Marcus Rashford sits fourth having run 105.2km this season, with Andreas Pereira – playing in a No10 role of late – the fifth and final player to reach three figures in terms of kilometres run at 101.6km.

In terms of QUICKEST players, Rashford rules the roost – despite Ryan Giggs calling James the quickest player he’s ever seen.

The England striker has clocked up a top-speed of 22.6mph this season – ahead of James’ personal best of 21.8mph.

Meanwhile, Man Utd have been given a triple boost ahead of this weekend’s game against the Blades with Luke Shaw, Nemanja Matic and Axel Tuanzebe confirmed to be in contention.

All three returning to full first-team training at Carrington this week – while Eric Bailly, Diogo Dalot and Timothy Fosu-Mensah edged closer to their comebacks.

The latter trio all took part in what the club are calling a “special session” following their long-term lay-offs.

Ashley Young is available for selection against Sheffield United having served his one-game suspension.

Pogba though is a certainty to miss the game – and is expected to be out until December at the earliest.

And the French star, 26, spent his international break in Miami – seen hanging out with Pharrell Williams and NBA star Jimmy Butler.
