MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly interested in signing ex City striker Edin Dzeko from Roma.
The Red Devils let forwards Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez leave in the summer, and failed to secure a replacement.
Edin Dzeko scored 72 goals for Manchester City
This has left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with only Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and teen starlet Mason Greenwood to choose from in attack.
Juventus forward Mario Mandzukic has been heavily linked with a £14million move to Old Trafford, but ESPN claim that interest has cooled given the Croatian’s lack of involvement at Juve this season.
And United chiefs could now be about to turn to Edin Dzeko instead.
The 33-year-old bagged 72 goals in 189 appearances for Manchester City during his time at the Etihad between 2011 and 2016.
This even included a brace in City’s 6-1 Manchester derby rout at Old Trafford on the way to the club’s first Premier League title, under Roberto Mancini.
The Bosnian hitman has continued to be prolific since leaving Eastlands for Roma in 2016.
He has scored 93 goals in 194 games for the Romans, including an incredible 39 strikes in the 2016-17 season.
Ed Woodward has been wary of signing players over the age of 30 since being burned by the poor performances of the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Nemanja Matic – both signed when past their best.
But the youthful nature of United’s other attackers could convince club chiefs to gamble on Dzeko’s experience benefiting the team.
As well as the wily Dzeko, United have recently been linked with other, younger forwards.
These include red-hot Red Bull Salzburg sensation Erling Braut Haaland – as well as teenage Reading striker Danny Loader.
Goals have been an issue for United this season, having scored just 16 in their 12 Premier League games so far – a whopping 19 fewer than rivals Manchester City.
