De Bruyne slams ‘fake’ Euro 2020 draw with Belgium guaranteed to face Denmark and Russia next summer

KEVIN DE BRUYNE has lashed out at the draw for Euro 2020, calling it fake after Belgium were guaranteed to face Denmark and Russia next summer.

Due to seedings and rules involving host nations, Belgium already know who will join them in Group B.

The official draw is not due to take place until November 30, but Belgium have the rare advantage of already knowing who their opponents will be.

Belgium join Italy, England, Germany, Spain and Ukraine in the top seeds for the tournament.

But FOUR of those sides are hosting the tournament, with only Belgium and Ukraine forced to travel for all their games.

That means Belgium must be in a pot with two nations who ARE hosting.

In Pot 2, only Holland and Russia are hosts, but Ukraine – the other non-hosting Pot 1 side – cannot be paired up with Russia due to political tensions.

That means Belgium will 100 per cent face Russia.

In Pot 3, Denmark are the only host nation, meaning Belgium must join them in Group B.

Belgium are now only waiting to find out who the fourth team in their group will be – with four play-off winners still to be decided.

They will join Wales – who beat Hungary on Tuesday night – to reach the finals and Finland in Pot 4.

On the “fixed” draw, a cynical De Bruyne moaned: “It’s a shame. For me, it feels like a fake competition. Football has become more and more a business.”

Meanwhile, despite securing a top seeding, England still face a possible Group of Death – and could be joined by France and Portugal.
