Tyson Fury will NOT be at ringside for Deontay Wilder fight this weekend despite February rematch on cards

TYSON FURY will not be ringside when Deontay Wilder fights Luis Ortiz in Las Vegas on Saturday.

It is commonplace for boxers to witness their future opponents’ fights live but the Gypsy King will be putting his feet up instead.

According to trainer Ben Davison, Fury is best served enjoying some down time after a busy few months that involved fighting Otto Wallin and a venture into WWE to take on Braun Strowman.

He told Metro: “He’s having a well-earned bit of rest now.”

Wilder, 34, takes on Ortiz, 40, in a rematch to their March 2018 bout that ended the Cuban’s unbeaten record in the ring.

A tenth round technical knockout handed American fighter Wilder his WBC heavyweight belt – his only world title to date.

Fury dramatically drew with Wilder late last year and a highly anticipated rematch is still on for February 2020, Davison says.

Asked whether the fight would go ahead, he added: “To my knowledge, yes.

“What date and what this and what that, that’s not my job. That’s the broadcasters and the promoters and the management.

“I just get told that’s the date and that’s that, we organise training and the rest of it.”

One person who will be present at the MGM Grand on the weekend is Davison himself.

Fury’s trainer has already spent hours studying Wilder’s tactics in the ring but is seeking the “one per cent [that] can make a difference” to help next year’s contest.
