The side who sit tenth in League Two were beaten 5-4 on penalties after the scoreline was 1-1 at the end of the 90 minutes.

Two of Heskey’s six kids Jaden, 18, and Reigan, 16, featured for City in the win.

Reigan, who is a winger, came off the bench in the second-half and scored a sensational goal in the 89th minute.

The teenage sensation picked up the ball on the right and dribbled past a Grimsby defender before firing a curling effort into the top corner from outside the box.

He then stepped up and converted one of the spot-kicks in the shootout.

Jaden is hoping to follow in his father’s footsteps and is a striker just like his dad.

He led the line yesterday and scored the decisive fifth penalty that gave City the three points.

In their previous EFL Trophy game, they drew 1-1 with Chesterfield and then lost on spot-kicks.

Jaden is further down the line in his development, captaining their Under-18s and scoring in the FA Youth Cup final win against Leeds last season.

Heskey Sr earned 62 caps for England and played for the likes of Leicester, Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Football genes are clearly in the family as Leeds star Mateo Joseph’s dad is Emile’s cousin.
