Fans loving the moment Everton stars ‘go full Martin Keown’ on Anthony Gordon after penalty miss against former club

EVERTON stars went ‘full Martin Keown’ on Anthony Gordon following his penalty miss – and fans LOVED it.

The England winger and Toffees academy kid returned to Goodison Park with Newcastle, where it appeared he was ready to open the scoring for the visitors.

However, the home faithful were left ecstatic when Three Lions shotstopper Jordan Pickford denied his former team-mate.

As Gordon, 23, looked gutted, Toffees’ stars celebrated wildly.

None more than Abdoulaye Doucoure, who seemingly channelled his inner Martin Keown, as he cheered the save right in front of Gordon.

The former Mali international could be seen leaping towards the Toon wideman, almost landing on him in a video clip.

One fan wrote on X: “Doucoure doing a Keown on RVN to Gordon.”

A second posted: “Doucoure went full Martin keown on Gordon.”

While a third added: “Thought he was going to give him the big Martin Keown on Van Nistelrooy treatment for a second then.”

The clip brought back memories of Arsenal legend Keown jumping on Ruud Van Nistelrooy in a spicy clash between the Gunners and Manchester United.

In that match, with the game headed for a draw, United were awarded a penalty when one-time Everton star Keown was harshly adjudged to have fouled Diego Forlan.

Up stepped Van Nistelrooy, who rifled the ball against the bar which set Keown into a frenzy.

The hardman defender jumped on the Dutch striker while screaming in his face.

Lauren, Patrick Vieira and Ray Parlour were also involved in ugly scenes at Old Trafford in the epic 2003 clash.

Arsenal would have the last laugh that season, too, going unbeaten to win the Premier League as the ‘Invincibles.’

Everton and Newcastle played out a 0-0 draw in Saturday night’s football, with the Gordon’s penalty miss being the key moment.
