Online clips appear to show the footballer being escorted to safety following the alleged crime.

The thieves, who were on a motorbike, threatened Neres with a gun as he left the car, before he cowed and gave up his watch.

They then brazenly fled the scene, with Neres unable to greet his fans outside the stadium, L’Unione Sarda reports.

Neres and his wife Kira Winona were on their way to their hotel after Napoli secured a 2-1 win against Parma.

The flashy watch is believed to be a Rolex worth a staggering €100,000 (£84,000), according to local media.

The couple was fortunately left uninjured as footage shows them being guided into the hotel by security.

More footage shows the attacked Mercedes van drive off with two of its windows completely smashed in by the thugs.

Neres’ wife Kira wrote on Instagram: “David would like to apologise to the fans who were waiting for him outside.
