GARY LINEKER apologised for “not getting the memo” as he teased Alan Shearer and Micah Richards for wearing waistcoats.
Labelling his pals the “Gareth Southgate appreciation society”, Lineker poked fun at their matching outfits while live on BBC One.
The trio had gathered in the studio ahead of Manchester City’s FA Cup quarter-final tie against Newcastle at the Etihad.
Ex-City star Richards and Toon legend Shearer were ready to battle in the gantry while their former teams clashed on the pitch.
And they were joined by none other than iconic former goalkeeper Shay Given, who played for both Premier League sides.
However, Shearer and Richards both felt the occasion deserved some top-notch attire.

They both rocked up on the screen in suits and waistcoats.
The popular pundits certainly made for a polished pairing.
But Lineker could not resist poking fun at their outfits as he compared them to waistcoat-loving England manager Southgate.
Lineker teased: “I just need to apologise to you all at the moment, because I missed the waistcoat memo.

Luckily, both Shearer and Richards saw the funny side as they roared with laughter.
Given also chuckled at the quip, having opted against wearing a waistcoat himself.
Lineker’s cheeky line came after he was brutally “sold” by Richards during a funny transfer game on their podcast with Shearer.
That’s with the pundit declaring: “You absolute w****r!”
Speaking on The Rest Is Football, pal Richards said: “Because I’ve never seen Gaz play, we’re selling Gaz.
“See you later, all those records you’ve broken, they’re a distant memory, they’re history.
“Let’s go to modern players, Kane, a bit more versatile, well rounded, lovely striker.
“Lovely technique too but I’m going to put him on the bench.
“Alan Shearer, the Geordie boys, we’re buying him!”
Shearer chimed in: “You know class when you see class!”
But Lineker rebuffed Richards by saying: “You absolute w****r!”

Lineker fired back with a vow: “I’m not speaking to you! If you’d seen me play, you’d buy me!”
