JOSHUA KIMMICH claims the toughest opponent he has ever faced was a Chelsea flop.

The Bayern Munich star has come up against Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe during his glittering career.

But he recently admitted that it was Alvaro Morata who caused him the most problems.

The duo have gone head-to-head on three occasions, with the Spanish striker registering a goal and two assists in games against Kimmich.

Their first encounters came in two Champions League last-16 legs in 2016 while Morata was at Juventus.

He set up goals for team-mates Stefano Sturaro and Juan Cuadrado during the tie.

Kimmich is predominately a right-back or holding midfielder but had difficulties as a makeshift centre-half in both fixtures.

They then met again most recently in the 2022 World Cup group stage as Germany drew 1-1 with Spain as Morata hit the back of the net.

Kimmich previously explained why he found playing against the Atletico Madrid star so tough, saying: “He has a very strong body, he is very fast and has good technique.”

Morata never made the grade at Chelsea after signing for £60million in 2017.

He scored 24 goals in 72 matches for the Blues and was loaned out to Atleti for a year-and-a-half.

Morata was eventually sold to the LaLiga side for a reported £58m in 2020.
