Major clue Mason Greenwood could make bombshell return to the Premier League – but NOT with Man Utd

MASON Greenwood’s future could be back in England, but it might not be with Manchester United.

The striker, 22, has netted four times in 11 matches since joining Getafe FC on a season-long loan, including a wonder strike against Almeria on Saturday.

In what could be a major hint about where Greenwood’s future lies, there are Premier League scouts in the stands watching the forward play, the Spanish sporting newspaper Diario AS has reported.

Scouts were watching Greenwood when he scored Saturday’s wonder goal against Almeria, the paper confirmed.

Manchester United is confirmed by The Athletic to have their own scouts watching their player while on loan, but the club also views his matches remotely on video.

But it is unknown which clubs the other scouts are from.

The English teams could have a fight on their hands for the player if he continues in strong form as Getafe are also reported by Diario AS to want to extend his loan another season.

A senior source at the club, speaking on anonymity to The Athletic, also said that if Greenwood continues on his current form then the Spanish club would look to discuss his future staying in Madrid.

He even has a Spanish teacher as he integrates into the team.

If United or another Premier League team planned to bring him back to England, they could face backlash from fans outraged Greenwood is still playing following his arrest.

He has copped flak for the charges even while in Spain.

Rival Getafe FC fans, such as those from Osasuna and Athletic Bilbao, have sledged Greenwood on the pitch with whistles and shouts of, “Greenwood, die!”

Greenwood was taken off the United pitch after he was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behaviour in January 2022.

Greenwood denied all the charges.

Key witnesses eventually withdrew from the case and the Crown Prosecution Service announced in February 2023 it had discontinued the charges.

Manchester United then started their own internal investigation with the plan to bring Greenwood back into the team.

That investigation ended in August, but after huge fan pressure and internal backlash, Greenwood was sent to the La Liga side on a season-long loan.
