Leicester’s PL2 clash vs Newcastle ABANDONED after Foxes member of staff rushed to hospital with medical emergency


LEICESTER’S Premier League 2 clash against Newcastle was abandoned after a member of staff was rushed to hospital.

The Foxes said a member of their staff had been taken to hospital following a medical emergency.

A Leicester statement reead: “We can confirm that this evening’s PL2 fixture between Leicester City Under-21s and Newcastle United Under-21s at Seagrave was abandoned due to a medical emergency involving a member of LCFC staff.

“The staff member has been transferred to hospital and we await further updates on his condition.”

A statement from Newcastle added: “Our thoughts are with the Leicester City staff member following tonight’s PL2 fixture.”

Fortunately, a follow-up statement from Leicester confirmed the staff member had been released from hospital and was able to return home.

It read: “We are pleased to report that, following examination by on-site medics, the staff member has been released from observation to recover at home.

“The Club expresses its thanks to Newcastle United, to the match officials and to on-duty medical staff for their cooperation, assistance and care.”

The score was 2-2 at the time the match was abandoned.

Will Alves had scored inside five minutes after returning from an ACL injury.

Christopher Popov had doubled their advantage.

But Newcastle’s Dylan Stephenson then scored two goals in quick succession.

The Magpies sit 17th in the PL2 Division 1 table with eight points.

Meanwhile, Leicester are 20th with seven points.
