MAURICIO POCHETTINO is hopeful Christopher Nkunku’s early recovery from injury will provide a goal-scoring boost for Chelsea.
The £56million forward suffered a knee injury during Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States but has returned to training this week and could return to the pitch next month.
Pochettino knows his side need to find the back of the net more often, with only Manchester United having scored fewer out of the Premier League’s top ten so far this season.
The French forward, 25, bagged 23 goals in all competitions last season with RB Leipzig.
Pochettino said: “He is doing really, really well.
“He is working really hard. I think he is really close. I hope as soon as possible we can have him involved again. He is an important player for us.

“Maybe after the next international he will be involved. Maybe, it’s not sure.
“He is a player that can provide goals and we are missing goals.
“That is why always we think it’s a player that can be important for us.
“He proved he can score goals in a league like Bundesliga and we have a different offensive player.

“Today with maybe 8-10 goals from Nkunku this situation is completely different because they are the goals we are missing to be in a different position.”
Nkunku’s early return would not only be a boost to Pochettino’s squad but could also mean the Blues do not have to shell out even more cash come January.
Pochettino is already deep in planning for the winter window but has not decided whether a new striker will be necessary.
He added: “Football is really dynamic. Maybe we are thinking in a different way two weeks ago or three weeks ago.
“We are ready and working with the sporting directors and owners to try to be ready.
“The moment the transfer window is open, we can see if the team needs, if the squad needs to add some players in the position we are talking, an offensive position.”
