A third chortled: “cry copenhagen cry haha.”

Another joked: “learn how to shoot penalties!”

United’s win saw them move onto three points at the halfway stage of the group campaign.

They remain a point behind Galatasaray, and six off Bayern Munich.

Next up in Europe they will head to Copenhagen for a spicy rematch, before travelling to Turkey to play Galatasaray.

Their group stage will conclude with a home assignment against Bayern Munich.

On his former skipper, boss Erik ten Hag said after the game: “He’s much more proactive in possession, passing vertically, defending on the front foot, stepping in, and is very confident in duels.

“I think he’s dominating in the right moment, dominating his opponents.

“And then he gets rewarded – it’s a very good skill for him, his heading – I have to say a great pass from Christian [Eriksen] as well and a very good finish.”
