Ex-Manchester City defender Richards, 35, is a regular panellist on the Sky show.

He has previously gone on record in the past as saying defending against Bale was one of the hardest tasks he was given during his career.

And now Bale has re-paid the favour with a revelation of his own.

A League of Their Own team captain Jamie Redknapp claimed he and Bale had been playing golf when the Welshman said Richards was his toughest opponent.

When this story was relayed to Richards in the studio, he hilariously gasped and could not believe it.

He then asked for Bale to repeat it while he filmed it with his phone.

Reenacting the moment, Redknapp turned to Bale and said: “Just out of interest, who was the toughest opponent you ever played against?”

Bale replied: “It was Micah Richards.”

Richards immediately jumped off his chair and began running around the studio with his arms aloft in celebration.

He then screamed: “Yes, yes, yes.”

Once he sat back down, Redknapp asked Bale: “Do you mean that?”

To which Bale brilliantly said: “No, I was joking.”

Richards’ face dropped, before Bale reassured him by adding: “No, no. You were, you were.”
