MOHAMED ELNENY has revealed that he cried when Arsenal offered him a contract extension.
The Egyptian’s previous deal had been set to expire at the end of last season, during which he endured an injury hit campaign.
After suffering a serious knee issue in January, Elneny feared that his Arsenal career was over.
The Gunners opted to keep him around by giving him a one-year extension, however, much to the 31-year-old’s delight.
Speaking to the Standard, he said: “It was one of the happiest days in my life.
“The way they spoke to me, the way the entire club was happy about this decision, they made me cry this day.

“Arsenal Football Club, they know I love them 100 per cent, so much.
“They know I don’t want to leave. I want to stay and finish my career there, 100 per cent.
“I was injured and my contract was finishing and I could not play anymore last season, and they came straight away after I got injured, the next day and said: ‘Mo, what sort of contract will it have to be? We love you here and we and we want you to stay’.
“Really, this club is great.”

Elneny is Arsenal’s longest-serving player, having joined under Arsene Wenger in January 2016.
He has gone on to play 156 times for the Gunners, scoring six times.
The midfielder has made one appearance this season, playing the final eight minutes of Arsenal’s 1-0 League Cup win at Brentford.
