Chelsea star forced to return home early from international duty as Blues fans fume ‘I hate international break’

CHELSEA ace Cole Palmer has returned early from international duty after picking up a dead leg.

Palmer was called up by England Under-21 manager Lee Carsley and started him against Serbia’s reserves on Thursday at City Ground where his players won 9-1.

According to SunSport’s own Jordan Davies, however, the playmaker will play no part on Monday’s trip to Slovakia to face Ukraine’s Under-21 side.

The 21-year-old didn’t travel with the Young Lions after hurting his right quad.

Carsley has therefore decided not to risk Palmer, who got injured against Serbia.

Davies tweeted: “Lee Carsley reveals Cole Palmer will not travel with the #ENG U21s to Slovakia to face Ukraine tomorrow night.

Palmer’s return to Chelsea was met with mixed reaction by the club’s faithful on social media.

There were those who cursed the international break for causing injuries and those praising Carsley for letting the ex-Manchester City ace heal.

One fan tweeted: “Good choice. With [Reece] James and [Benoit] Badiashile coming back we can’t start piling up injuries all over again ffs. I hate the international break.”
