JAMES MADDISON has opened up on his “roast dinner” comments which sparked an internet frenzy.
The Tottenham star, who signed in a £45million transfer from Leicester, went viral after declaring he wanted to be the “main man” when having a roast dinner with his family.
Ahead of his first North London derby, Maddison lifted the lid on the now famous quote.
While speaking to Sky Sports, the 26-year-old was asked whether he would celebrate winning the game with a roast dinner afterwards.
In response, Maddison said: “I thought something like that would come up, taken way out of context by the way.”
Asked about the viral fervour it caused, he added: “The question was about being a showman and I said that’s how I am as a person, like a showman.

“It’s not entirely what I meant, but I enjoyed the memes nonetheless.
“Some of them were absolutely hilarious. My group chat with my friends was just pinging in tweets and TikTok’s of me being the main man at roast dinner.
“It was worth it for the banter. I might have to do a roast dinner celebration the next time I score.”
