Football match involving disgraced Spanish FA chief Luis Rubiales SUSPENDED amid security fears

TOWN hall officials in the coastal resort Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales grew up in today announced they were suspending a football match he was due to play in for security reasons.

The game, which was actually called ‘Friends of Luis Rubiales Match’, was supposed to start at 8.30pm in a municipal stadium in the resort of Motril.

The football chief said yesterday he was heading back to his native town for a family holiday.

Today, town hall officials decided to suspend the football match after several feminist organisations announced plans to protest outside the event.

Motril Town Hall said in a statement: “Given the possibility acts may take place that could lead to public order infringements, the match organised by Motril Football Club that was due to take place this afternoon in the Escribano Castilla Municipal Stadium has been suspended.”

Fifa banned Rubiales over the scandal, and on Thursday, it was announced that they had opened disciplinary proceedings against him in the wake of the incident.

He has since been suspended from all football-related activities for 90 days.

The controversial Rubiales has received widespread criticism this week – both for the kiss and his leadership of the Spanish FA – including from players, LaLiga clubs, the Lionesses, the protesting Spanish public and politicians.

Hermoso has said that the kiss was not consensual – but the Spanish FA have defended their president and instead waged war with their midfielder by threatening to sue her.

She said that she “did not enjoy” the kiss with the Spanish chief.

This has led several Spanish stars, including men’s striker Borja Iglesias, to quit the national team in protest against the chief.

Rubiales then performed a dramatic U-turn and refused to resign in a press conference on Friday.

As well as the kiss, Rubiales was criticised for entering the Spanish team’s dressing room, where he vowed to take them all to Ibiza.

He was spotted grabbing his crotch when celebrating the winning goal against the Lionesses in the Women’s World Cup final.
