Newcastle vs Aston Villa preview

Normally with opening day of the season games, we’re having to go back some time for the last time the two teams met.

But they met as part of the Summer Series just last month in a highly entertaining 3-3 draw.

With a Newcastle 4-0 win at St James’ earlier in the season and 3-0 Villa win at Villa Park in April, it certainly is a fixture that delivers.

Morale at both of these clubs possibly couldn’t be any higher heading into the new season.

But with that comes immense optimism and, ultimately, expectation after both had a great campaign last time out.

Howe’s Newcastle have Champions League football to look forward to after last season’s fourth placed finish and have spent well this summer with the signings of Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes.

Tino Livramento’s signing means the Toon boss now has two solid options for every position at the club as they battle on four fronts for the first time since 2012/13.

For Villa, they finished the season like a steam train to just beat Spurs by one point to claim Europa Conference League football.

They’ll face Hibs or Luzern there for a spot in the group stages but for now, will be hoping to start the season as they finished it last time out.

Newcastle vs Aston Villa betting tips

Bruno Guimaraes to be carded at 16/5 with Paddy Power – CLAIM HERE

Bruno Guimaraes was amongst Newcastle’s top stars in their excellent season last year and is tipped to do so again.

But as well as being influential on the ball, he’s also tireless off it in order to win the ball back.

It’s a trademark of his play but can also result in plenty of fouls, 45 last season and seven yellows to be exact.

His pal Joelinton might commit more but Bruno is decent value to kick the season off with a yellow.

Ollie Watkins 2+ shots on target at 12/5 with Paddy Power -CLAIM HERE

His form really kicked on last season and Ollie Watkins could be set for a huge year at Villa.

He scored inside ten minutes of the pre-season meeting between the sides and bagged a double in that 3-0 win over the Toon at Villa Park.

Is among the likeliest to find the net here but a couple of efforts to find Nick Pope’s goal seems a sound enough punt.

Newcastle to win and BTTS at 12/5 with William Hill – CLAIM HERE

It was two wins-to-nil between the sides in the league last year but much has changed since then.

Pre-season showed both sides have an abundance of goals in them and we could witness that on Saturday.

With home advantage, we just feel Newcastle could sneak the three points.
