Man Utd fans blast ‘we are a joke’ as club faces whopping £28m loss on forgotten star by asking for tiny transfer fee

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly prepared to sell Eric Bailly for as little as £2million this summer.

Several players are expected to leave Old Trafford before the 2023-24 campaign kicks off, with Erik ten Hag plotting a complete squad overhaul.

The likes of Anthony Elanga, Donny van de Beek, Brandon Williams, Alex Telles and Harry Maguire have all been transfer listed, along with out-of-favour defender Bailly.

And according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the 29-year-old Ivory Coast international could be sold for just £2m.

Bailly signed for United in a £30m transfer from Villarreal in 2016.

That means the Red Devils will accept a £28m loss in order to sell him this summer.

Real Betis are understood to be interested in signing him as a replacement for Victor Ruiz, who will leave the Benito Villamarin Stadium when his contract expires at the end of this month.

The club’s new sporting director, Ramon Planes, is a known admirer of the defender and has been monitoring his career since he graduated from Espanyol’s academy.

Bailly spent this season on loan at Marseille, but he was limited to just 23 appearances across all competitions.

The Ligue 1 side had no intention of triggering his £6m option to buy, so the Red Devils have put the defender on the market for even less.

And Man Utd fans are not happy about it.

One person tweeted: “We are so bad at selling.”

Another complained: “2m? We are a joke.”

A third wrote: “We are the worst at selling players.”

While a fourth joked: “That’s £1 for every hour he was injured at United.”

Bailly made 113 appearances for Man Utd during his six-year stint at Old Trafford.

Since joining the club, his career has been hindered by several injury issues.
