TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD grasped his opportunity in the heart of England’s midfield as he scored a sensational goal against Malta.
The Liverpool star, 24, started in the middle of the park during the Three Lions’ 4-0 win over Andorra in September 2021.
On that occasion, Gareth Southgate’s experiment lasted just 45 minutes before he returned to his more familiar right-back spot.
But since then, Jurgen Klopp has been playing Alexander-Arnold in a hybrid role.
And he looked far more at home on Friday evening as he provided a brilliant defence-splitting pass for Bukayo Saka in the build-up to England’s opening goal in their Euro 2024 qualifier.
He then went on to bag the second himself, rifling a sumptuous effort into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Reacting on social media, one person said: “Alexander Arnold has wasted his life playing at RB.
“He’s going to boss the Europa League next season.”
Another added: “Trent Alexander Arnold balling in that midfield.”

And a third replied: “Boy, Alexander Arnold is such a class footballer.”
Alexander-Arnold was not included in Southgate’s squad for their Euro qualifiers in March.
But the game against Malta brought about his second for the Three Lions as he looks to become a regular for his country.
