Captain’s role
Ilkay Gundogan has spoken of his pride at being Man City captain, after their recent success.
The German midfielder shared on Twitter: “Champioooooooooons!!!! To have won the@PremierLeague title three times in a row and five times in six years is just amazing!!! Proud to be captain of this world class team! See you all tomorrow!’
Jump for joy
Man City stars jumped for joy and hugged each other as they clinched a third straight Premier League title.
Pep Guardiolaâs men were expecting to wrap up another trophy by beating Chelsea on Sunday.
But Arsenal made life a whole lot easier by losing at relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest.
The result left City four points clear of Arsenal, who only have one game left this term.
And the champions were left to celebrate their successful defence of Englandâs top flight with three games to spare.
Incredible video footage shows City players sat together at the clubâs training ground watching TV.
City’s celebrations
MANCHESTER CITY’S heroes were careful not to go overboard with their celebrations after Arsenal handed them a third title in a row.
Pep Guardiola’s Premier League kings clearly believe they must add the FA Cup and Champions League to truly make a splash this season.
The Gunners’ 1-0 loss at Nottingham Forest means City are champions with three games to spare.
Etihad aces Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva leapt around together with delight as Forest held on to ensure staying up and guarantee Guardiola’s men the crown.
And sensational summer Erling Haaland responded by posting: “Always give your best. Always believe. It pays off. C’MON CITY!”
But there appeared to be one eye on the FA Cup final with Manchester United on June 3 and the Euro finale with Inter Milan 10 days later in many of the players’ responses.
At least centre-back Aymeric Laporte sounded a more jubilant tone.
He wrote: “What a season tho credit to absolutely everyone involved from top to bottom. Every one of use fought for this. More to come soon hopefully but we can already be proud of this one.”
And City’s all-time top scorer Sergio Aguero shared his old club’s “3 in a row!!!” title tweet.
Pep’s future
Pep Guardiola has hinted he could LEAVE Manchester City as they clinched their fifth Premier League title in six seasons.
Guardiola gave a rather cryptic answer regarding his future in an interview before Arsenal’s defeat handed his side the Premier League title.
Speaking to Sky Sports about there being little to achieve should they lift all three trophies, he said: “First, we have to win it. [Then] you can ask me after and I will tell you how I feel and how I think.”
He was then pressed about whether he had thought about not having anything left to accomplish at Man City.
To which he replied: “Of course, we are three games away and we need each competition to do it.
“[But] You are going to tell me that our city rivals, Man Utd, will be an easy game?’
“What will happen against an Italian team, who don’t feel favourites?
“I’m thinking about that. And after, of course, if we achieve then I will tell you.”
Lineker tweets
Gary Lineker has congratulated Man City for winning the Premier League.
However, he has issued a warning suggesting their dominance might change when Pep Guardiola leaves the club.
The Match of the Day presenter tweeted: “Congratulations to @ManCity on winning yet another title. Their 5th in 6 years. Theyâre very dominant at present, but suspect that will change post Pep.”
Did Arsenal bottle run-in?
The discourse last week was Arsenal hadn’t bottled their title bid, more they had failed to keep pace with an astonishing Manchester City side.
It felt right then, but today’s performance has left a very different taste in the mouths of Gunners fans.
On April 1st, Mikel Arteta’s team beat Leeds United 4-1 to move eight points clear of Manchester City, albeit having played a game more.
Since then, the Londoners have let the superb standards they set in the first half of the season slip.
- Apr 9: Drew 2-2 v Liverpool (A)
- Apr 16: Drew 2-2 v West Ham (A)
- Apr 21: Drew 3-3 v Southampton (H)
- Apr 26: Lost 4-1 v Man City (A)
- May 2: Won 3-1 v Chelsea (H)
- May 7: Won 2-0 v Newcastle (A)
- May 14: Lost 3-0 v Brighton (H)
- May 20: Lost 1-0 v Nott’m Forest (A)
Eighteen till I die
Eighteen percent possession. It’s all that Nottingham Forest needed to topple Arsenal.
It’s the lowest amount on record for a side to win a Premier League football match.
Forest safe after Gunners scalp
They’ll be celebrating in Manchester this evening – but it will be nothing compared to the party in Nottingham.
Forest’s win means they have ensured another season in the top-flight, joining their two follow promoted sides Bournemouth and Fulham in staying up.
So it’s going to be two from three as Everton, Leeds and Leicester fight it out.
Two big clubs will be joining Southampton in the Championship, but who?
Match stats from the City Ground
Forest seal survival with a win in a game where they completed just 81 passes.
Hell, even their goal came from an overhit pass.
Will their fans care? Not one bit.
Celebrations begin at the Etihad
The party is underway in Manchester.
It should be some atmosphere tomorrow when City host Chelsea.
City seal title without playing
Manchester City won have won their third successive Premier League title, and their fifth in six seasons.
And in the end, they claimed it this weekend without having to kick a ball.
Arsenal’s limp surrender at Nottingham Forest this evening means they are unable to match City’s current total.
Eight points clear of the Citizens at the start of April, the Gunners have won just two of their last eight games – and are in very real danger of finishing ten points off the champions.
Full time – Nottâm Forest 1-0 Arsenal
It’s all over! Manchester City are the Premier League champions!
But more importantly to 28,000 Nottingham Forest fans inside the City Ground, the Reds are staying up.
Steve Cooper’s side have beaten the drop thanks to some determined performances and big home scalps.
Given the money spent and the players brought in, it’s hardly a great escape or fairytale story, but credit must go to Cooper for steadying the ship when the Trent waters began to rock.

90+9. Navas stayed down after taking that cross, and it may not be a case of game management.
In fact, the Costa Rican goalkeeper is going to have come off for the final seconds.

Nottâm Forest 1-0 Arsenal

I don’t know why. Their defence and midfield look comfortable here.
Arsenal instead look clueless.

Nottâm Forest 1-0 Arsenal

I’m sorry, Kieran, but that’s how the rules work.
Nottâm Forest 1-0 Arsenal

It just about sums up Arsenal’s performance that started dubiously, and has deteriorated towards pathetic.
