Doncaster Rovers SACK manager Danny Schofield hours after disappointing season ends with 18th place finish

DONCASTER ROVERS have sacked manager Danny Schofield just hours after their disappointing season came to a close.

The League Two side finished in 18th place and had won just one of their last 11 games.

A statement from the chairman David Blunt read: “It is with the deepest regret that we have made this decision.

“Danny is a Doncaster lad and everyone at the club desperately wanted him to be a success here. His dedication, commitment and work ethic during his time at the club have been unquestionable.

“Whilst it is true Danny has not had the opportunities to build his own team, and the injuries have depleted the squad, we would have still expected to see a better turn of results than what has been achieved this season.

“In recent weeks, Danny has handled some difficult circumstances with the utmost dignity and has the respect and best wishes of all staff at Doncaster Rovers.”

Schofield had previously worked in youth team roles at Leeds, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield.

The 44-year-old was promoted to Terriers manager after Carlos Coberan quit at the end of last season, but his reign lasted just nine games before he was axed.

Schofield was appointed Doncaster boss in October, winning ten games in his 33 match spell.

The club had hoped for better after they were relegated from League One in the previous season.

It is currently unclear who will take over at Doncaster for next season.

But Blunt confirmed that the club are hoping to announce Schofield’s replacement within the next ten days.
