He utilised his contacts at his old club Juventus to secure the services of manager Antonio Conte.

The pair then brought in several players from the Turin club that was to assist them in securing Champions League football for the North London club.

Why did Fabio Paratici resign as Tottenham Hotspur sporting director?

Paratici was banned from football activities in Italy when his old club Juventus, where he was sporting director and managing director before joining Spurs, were found guilty of false accounting.

Juventus received a 15-point deduction as a result of the findings also but the points were reinstated after FIFA announced they were going to re-examine the case.

Paratici had appealed against his ban but this was rejected and the governing body of football extended the scope of the ban.

With this now being a worldwide ban, he could no longer continue his duties at the Premier League club.

Tottenham announced “FIFA ruled to extend the ban worldwide and, whilst there continues to be a dispute as to the scope and extent of the ban, the current worldwide ban prevents Fabio from fulfilling his duties as our managing director of football.

“Fabio has consequently taken the decision to resign from his position at the club with immediate effect to focus on his legal position in respect of the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) and FIFA rulings.”
