And AJ said it could be eight months before his next bout.

He wrote: “My next fight is scheduled for December.”

AJ added philosophically: “Not ideal but everything is part of a bigger picture.”

The news comes after the Brit boxer made a victorious return – defeating Jermaine Franklin by unanimous after 12 rounds.

Immediately, he signalled his intention to fight Tyson Fury – by calling out the Gypsy King.

Fury’s co-promoter Bob Arum has got the ball rolling for the biggest fight in British boxing history with a shock phone call to AJ’s manager Eddie Hearn.

He told iFL TV: “Bob Arum phoned me the other day, which was quite a surprise.

“Just talking about AJ-Fury, he said ‘What are you thinking?’ And I said ‘I don’t know.”

Hearn is open to holding serious talks with Team Fury as the Gypsy King is without an opponent following the collapse of his undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk.

The Matchroom Boxing chief continued: “We’re all up for discussing the fight.

“I don’t think there will be a significant site fee in July, but we’re still willing to look at the numbers.

“Or if you want to wait and do it later in the year, we’re up for that too.

“Who knows what’s going to happen with Usyk, with [Deontay] Wilder.”

AJ has been tipped to face off with the American Wilder – and remains adamant it will happen.

He told iFL TV: “It will happen and I think it’s been long overdue. It’s a conversation that’s been happening for a long, long time.

“So for me to sit here and say, ‘It’s going to happen, it’s going to happen’, it will feel like I’m just waffling again.

“And when it does it does. And it will. That’s just me, certifying it. I don’t need to sit here and talk about it and go on and on and on.

“I’ve been in that realm before where we spoke about it and it didn’t materialise. So, when it materialises it will happen and I’m confident in it.”
