Desperate Newcastle fan sells CAR to fly back from Australia for Carabao cup final – but there’s a catch

A CASH-strapped Newcastle fan sold his CAR so he could fly home from Australia to watch them in the Carabao Cup final – but he may be in for a shock.

Desperate Dan Gordon hopes to see his beloved Magpies win their first major trophy in 68 years.

So he begged mum Jeni to sell his red Vauxhall Corsa for an undisclosed price so he could afford a plane ticket.

Jeni, 53, told ChronicleLive: “He is crackers! He had paid for his flight home before they won on Tuesday.”

She told how despite working on a remote farm Down Under, super-fan Dan drives 40 minutes to a pub every time they’re on telly.

With a plane ticket in hand, he is due to arrive in London from Sydney on February 23.

He will meet up with pals in the capital ahead of their Carabao Cup final clash with Manchester United three days later.

But despite the extraordinary lengths the Geordie has gone to gather up the cash, there is no guarantee he will actually get to Wembley.

That’s because Dan, who left for Oz in August, gave his season ticket to brother Dale.

It means the pair, from the Whickham area of Newcastle, only qualify for one ticket, leaving the brothers in a pickle unless Dan manages to find a spare.

It could prove a disaster for the carless 22-year-old who now faces missing Newcastle’s first major trophy since 1976.

And to add insult to injury, his older brother David, his uncle and cousin are all off to the big game with their hotels booked.

“God knows what’s going to happen,” their mum joked.

The game kicks off at 4.30pm on Sunday, February 26 and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Newcastle are 1/1 to win, with United 8/11, according to SkyBet.
