Man Utd down in FOURTH in Deloitte Money League as rivals Liverpool climb above them with City top of the standings

LIVERPOOL have moved above Manchester United in the Deloitte Football Money League for the first time in the publication’s 26-year history.

Deloitte’s FootballMoney League ranks the 20 highest revenue-generating football clubs in the world.

And United are behind both Liverpool and Manchester City in the latest figures.

Erik ten Hag’s cross-town rivals City are top of the Money League after raking in an enormous £619.1million worth of revenue in 2021-22.

Transfer fees are excluded from the figures, but they do include matchday, broadcast and commercial revenue.

United are actually up a place from last year after generating £583.2m worth of revenue in 2021-22.

The Red Devils are fourth in the table, a place behind Liverpool, after an 18 per cent increase in revenue over the last year.

However, it’s the first time they have been behind Liverpool since Deloitte’s figures began.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have shot up from seventh to third in the last year, posting revenues of £594.3m.

That is a rise of 22 per cent from the previous year, which is largely thanks to their run to the Champions League final and an increase in matchday revenue.

Premier League clubs make up six out of the top ten, with Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal also on Deloitte’s list.

The Blues are eighth after raking in £481.3m of revenue – a rise of 10 per cent from the previous year.

And it’s Spurs who come out on top in the battle between the two North London clubs.

Antonio Conte’s side are ninth on the list after a staggering 23 per cent increase in revenue, giving them a total revenue of £442.8m.

That is over £75m more than the Gunners, who, despite a 13 per cent increase, posted £367.1m worth of revenue.

There are also a further five Prem clubs ranked outside the top ten, with West Ham 15th, Leicester 17th, Leeds 18th, Everton 19th and Newcastle 20th.

Deloitte’s Sports Business Group director Sam Boor said: “The Premier League’s financial superiority is unlikely to be challenged in the coming seasons.

“This is particularly apparent at a time when these clubs continue to attract international investment which often, in the best examples, encourages a focus on profitability, as well as on-pitch success.”
