Man Utd new boy Wout Weghorst and Wag Nikki watch on from stands as team-mates take on City in Manchester derby

MANCHESTER UNITED new signing Wout Weghorst watched from the stands as the Red Devils took on Manchester City at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old joined on loan until the end of the season on Friday – but not in time to play a part in today’s game.

So instead the Dutchman took a seat in the stands to watch the match.

He was joined by partner Nikki van Esch and their three children.

Weghorst was captured by cameras sitting with two of his kids on his lap.

The striker had been on loan at Besiktas from Burnley, but United forked out £2.5million in compensation to the Turkish side in order to cut that deal short.

Burnley are also set to receive £2.6m for loaning out the forward.

United will cover Weghorst’s wages during his time at the club, and the deal does not include an option or obligation to buy.

Weghorst scored nine goals in 18 games for Besiktas in the first half of the season.

He could make his United debut on Wednesday night as Erik ten Hag’s side travel to Crystal Palace.

After the deal went through, Weghorst said: “I feel privileged to be joining Manchester United.

“I’ve played against the club in the past and it’s a fantastic feeling to now have the chance to pull on the famous red shirt.

“I’ve seen United’s progress under Erik ten Hag this season and can’t wait to start playing my part in pushing the team towards its aims.

“Whatever happens in the next few months, I can promise to give everything to the club for as long as I am here.

“I thank everyone who has played a part in getting me to this stage, and now I am looking forward to meeting my new teammates and getting involved straight away.”
